SCOPE AND MOTIVATION

The modern communication networks are expected to connect billions of devices due to the popularity of smartphones, wearable devices, drones, and ubiquitous wireless sensors for smart cities, etc. The explosive growth of networked devices continuously drives the upsurge of traffic demand and pushes the current communication network infrastructure to its capacity limit. We also face the flourishing of new applications in future networks with very different quality provisioning requirements for data communications, such as Metaverse, Internet-of-Things (IoT), Ultra-Low Latency Communications (ULLC), Ultra Dense Network (UDN), Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which are very challenging or costly to be accommodated in current networks. These rising trends demand an inevitable strategic shift to exploit modern AI/ML techniques for more intelligent control and optimization of future communication networks.

AI/MI has already achieved great success in image identification, video recognition, natural language processing, etc. It also provides a vast set of tools and design principles to facilitate automation and intelligence in different aspects of future communication networks, including signal detection, channel modeling, traffic prediction, multiuser coordination, network optimization, resource management, and application/user behavior analysis, etc. This symposium seeks high-quality technical articles from both industry and academic to address current research challenges and provide innovative solutions for the design, management, and optimization of communications in future networks leveraging AI/ML techniques.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

We invite submissions on a wide range of research topics, spanning both theoretical and systems research, related but not restricted to the following topics:

  • AI/ML-driven optimization for communications
  • Lightweight AI/ML algorithms for communications
  • Integration of empirical information into AI/ML for communications
